Rub Rail Insert
Author: hemi354az (Show all albums)

Pictures of some of the rub rail inserts I have tried. The one that almost fits is 7/8" size. One inch fits but sticks out way too much to match the "end caps". I put name address etc of 7/8" manufacturer in a regular Mechanics Corner entry "Rub Rail Insert".

Several pieces of rub rail I have tried.

1" on the left, and 7/8" on the right.

40 yr old rub rail is "now" a little over 3/4".

Min width of rail slot is 9/16".

Picture 1 - Max rail slot is 1".

Picture 2 - Max slot width is 1".

Picture of 1" rub rail wher I tried to file "extra" to make it come down to end cap height. No way to ever get it smooth and shiny.

Note "height" of old original rub rail and end cap, verse, new piece of 7/8" Barbour #98175 Silver, and end cap. Otherwise fit is fine.

Original Rub Rail and several short pieces of Barbour(B) #98175, and Taco(T) #V12-0342. Note how the B and T both stick up higher than the Original.

7/8" Barbour #98175. This pic also shows why a 1" piece will not fit up into the back inside top and bottom corner as nice as the 7/8" piece does . . . NO ROOM.
