 The 518 transmission is built to bolt to a small block so an adapter is required to bolt to the 440 .This adapter keeps the starter in the same location as the original 440 but requires the transmission case to be cut to allow the starter to clear the case. Another style adapter calls for the engine block to have the portion below the starter to be removed to allow the starter to bolt up in the stock small block location. | ||
