West Coast Rally - Nov 12-14 Buellton, CA
Author: BigRabbitMan (Show all albums)

This is a collection of pictures that show a little of the activities at the rally. We all had a great time renewing old friendships and creating new ones. The photos were taken by Stephen Heinrichs and Eric Whedon.

Here are the pliers. They are leveraged for force and have a variable opening for flexibility. First Harry opened the folded aluminum with the spoon leveraged against the sledge and finalized it with the pliers.

Here he is working the metal with the pliers. Of course the tools would have been next to useless in my hands, but in Harry's hands this is the result .....

... which is perfection! It is probably straighter than when first manufactured.

A test fitting of the new vent proved that all is good!

Harry did notice the dark streaks of tree bark above the vent and asked Sandy to get a certain bottle out of their vehicle. She was back in a moment and Harry used the cleaning/rubbing compound to remove the marks as you can see here. Thank you Harry!

By mid-day on Sunday, some had left and the others that were leaving that day were packing up. Four of us were heading North. #708 Miller left first and made a stop after leaving. Here you see three coaches headed North to Gilroy, CA where a two day work party was scheduled. It is 1046's mirror followed by 587 and 617.

Approaching the only significant grade in 300 miles, what was that ahead? Why it was coach 708! What an opprotunity and one that will probably never be repeated. The Great Race was on. 1046 put the pedal to the metal and caught up with 708 on the 6% grade and then slipped into the middle lane!

Neck and neck they went up the grade. Both coaches are 440's and were towing, but 1046 has the Allison transmission and Edelbrock MPI fuel injection!

Up, up and away went 1046 pulling it's Subaru Brat tow vehicle!

On up the grade we went followed by 587 and 617 with 708 further back.

708 had to peel off for fuel and the rest of us continued on to the Camp Roberts rest area where we also took a break on our way to Gilroy. From the right here you see 617, 1046 and 587.

Back on the road it wasn't long before 708 caught up with the other three. Here are four coaches: 1046's mirror, 587, 617 and 708. 708 peeled off at Prunedale and headed for home in Boulder Creek while the remaining three contined on to Gilroy for the two day work party that would start the next day. And a good time was had by all. See you at the next rally.
