Create a Remote Oil Fill
Author: BigRabbitMan (Show all albums)

This album gives a short illustration of how to add a remote oil fill for your 440-I so that it is easy and neat to add oil.

Ok, to get started you need the oil fill tube from a Dodge van or van based motor home. It is too short and probably curved in the wrong places so you will cut out the center section as appropriate. You need the two ends.

The upper section with the fill cap should be located as seen in this picture. Make sure it is near the rear edge of the coach opening to ensure easy, clean pouring. I drilled and tapped the cross member to attach the bracket to the coach and used a hose clamp to attach the bracket to the tube. Due to the uppermost curve in the tubing, the tube is almost vertical at the pour point.

Here is the other end. Note that you got the rubber grommet along with the tube from the donor vehicle. There should be a knock out or cut out spot on your valve cover. An alternative is to also get the valve cover from the donor vehicle. Insert the grommet and then the other end of the tube.

You are almost done. Connect the two ends of the tube with correctly sized rubber tubing filling in the space between the two metal ends. Ensure a good connection with good, tight hose clamps and you are DONE!

This how you should NOT place the fill end as it will be difficult to pour the oil in without spilling. The end is recessed too far and the tube is at too flat of an angle so the oil doesn't flow down into the tube fast enough.
