Northern Calif Work Day - May 2009

This was primarily a work day used to further prepare coach 1046 for it's upcoming 4,579.6 mile trip East to the Rt 66 rally and the Four Corners rally.

Eric preparing the new exhaust manifold for installation by tapping threads into the cast hole. This is where the heat shield bracket will bolt.

Note that the sleeve nuts are safety wired to prevent loosening.


The newly lubricated power step undergoing testing - it passed!


This is the auto AC condenser guard waiting to be reinstalled. It was removed a while back when I had to remove one of the condensers and have it repaired.


Here is the condenser guard back in place. This is the location of the condensers for coach #646 and up.


Eric is very dedicated. Note that he is still working even though there is a slice of pizza on a plate waiting for him.


This photo shows the reason that the exhaust manifold was being worked on. See the two locations where there is black soot. Those are the two places where the exhaust manifold gasket was missing. After the manifold was pulled off, we were able to check the plane of the mating surface and it was too dished to put it back on. Also it had a fine crack on the top. Fortunately Eric had a new one in his garage so we replaced this one with the new one.


Both the pizza and the shade are gone, but work progresses.


Here you see the remote oil fill tube from a Dodge van that will later be installed to allow filling the oil from the radiator fill hatch. Note the curve to the tube. This is important to allow non-spill filling.


Here is the oil fill tube installed. By being located close to the rear edge of the opening, it is easy to slowly or rapidly pour the oil without spilling a drop. The curve in the tube results in an almost vertical fill tube. Sweet!!
