Felton Rally Nov '09

Author: BigRabbitMan (Show all albums) This is the album for a few of the pictures of the rally held in Felton, California Nov 6-8, 2009. We had a total of 10 FMC coaches at the rally and 13 owners for all or part of the rally. The furthest attendees came from over 2,000 miles way and the closest was 5 miles. Regardless of distance, we "met the nicest people" and had a great time. We missed you and hope to see you at the next rally. The photos are the combined effort of Ron and Louise Herbert, Harry and Sandy Day and Stephen Heinrichs.

On the right is coach #888, the Camyre's and on the left is coach #400, the Day's.	The redwood trees are actually taller than they look in this picture. Additionally, all of the trees you see in this album are relatively young redwoods as this area was logged off in the early 1900's. Mature redwoods are routinely 6-8 feet in diameter.	Here, Anna, the owner of the first SOB and friend of the Herberts, adorns the engine.	Note that this engine is a wood burner and has the verticle side steam pistons. That type of engine has high low speed torque for hard work.
Yes, it does look like a toy train and trestle, but if you were riding in the car you didn't at that point want to know how old that trestle actually is or how many tons of logs were transported over it!	While some were looking for whales, others took a ride on the narrow guage steam train that is located in the adjacent state park. They went up into a grove of redwoods amd learned some facts and history relating to redwood trees.	Here we are on our way back with Mr. Cool, Eric Whedon, at the wheel of coach #587. He did a good job and he never spilled a drop from the cup of water on the counter.	Monterey Bay has a long and colorful history. It was first sighted by the Spanish on Nov 17, 1542 by Juan Cabrillo. If you zoom in on the above picture you can read more of the history. We walked past some of the historic buildings on our way to the wharf.
It would have been good to have had more time to spend shopping or eating on the wharf, but we did have to get back to the campground. Here are Harry and Sandy Day with Captain Ahab.	.....sea lions, pelicans, sea gulls, cormorants, etc.	Here is an outside view with Jake Whedon at the rail where he spent a lot of time. It was a good trip even though we did not actually see any whales, but we did see ....	....keeping a good grip on things! He did a good job of it too.
