West Coast Gold Beach Rally - July 2013
Author: BigRabbitMan (Show all albums) This album covers a little bit of the fun we had at the Gold Beach, OR rally. We had 8 FMC coaches plus three more owners whose coaches were not able to travel at this time. This rally was unusual in that we had a major Saturday activity with a jet boat ride up the Roque River. It was enjoyed by all that could make it. The photos are courtesy of Stephen Heinrichs, Nuntawan Camrye, and Larry Enoksen. |

... and another bald eagle. | And here is Kevin explaining our bathroom stop, lunch stop and that as we went further up the river we would be putting on life preservers as the rapids and hidden rocks would increase. | Having fun splashing the rock! It was so much fun, Kevin turned the boat around, went back downstream and turned around and did it again! | This is one of a number of encampments on sandbars that we passed. This one looks to be two families. They bring everything in by boat and spend a great week or summer along the river. They then take everthing back out by boat.
This is one of many small creeks that feed the river with water. The Roque is fed only from rain and springs from early spring until winter as there is no snow melt between its mouth and its source at the base of the mountain that contains Crater Lake. | And on up the river we go. Larry is hanging onto his hat to keep the wind from the speed of the boat from blowing his hat off. | ... and then our first sighting of a Bald Eagle. They migrate south each fall and return in the spring. | Here you can tell the speed that we are going up the rapids.
And on up the river we go. | Why are we all looking at the bridge? It doesn't seem particularly spectaclar does it. Well, its claim to fame is that in 1964, a very wet year, this bridge became the measure of the highest stream flow ever measured on the Roque river as water flowed over the bridge deck. look again and try to imagine how much water that would be! | And here is a closer view of an osprey. | This was the largest osprey nest that we saw.
