West Coast rally at Puddingstone Reservoir - 2012
Author: BigRabbitMan (Show all albums)

This album's pictures reveal the good time we had in February, 2012 at the East Shore RV park adjacent to the Puddingstone Reservoir in San Dimas, CA. Our attendees were from northern and southern CA, Arizona and Missouri. The pictures are courtesy of Stephen Heinrichs and Liza Lee Miller.

Oh yes, this is what the inside of the parking brake on your coach looks like. On the left is the driveline that connects the transmission to the differential. The FMC's independent suspension allows the use of that very short driveline which reduces rear overhang.

Here we have Jim Woestman, Ron Herbert and Greg Miller "in conversation"! Also note the grassy hill in the background. After dark, that hill was used to play bocci ball with glow in the dark balls!

Here are the guys: from the left we have Jim Woestman-617, Lou Cruse-120, Greg Miller-708, Frank "Paco" Ruiz-059, Eric Whedon-587, Ron Herbert-621,and Ed Marshall-848 with Stephen Heinrichs-1046 behind the camera.

Here are two heads. The one on the left is the 440 head that came on FMC engines. The one on the right is the head from a 413. Note that greater hight of the 413 head and the more desirable bolt pattern for the exhaust manifold. 413 heads can be put on a 440 with some additional parts included. That will allow better head cooling and higher compression.

Now we are going to get to see the big stuff!

Lou is a strong poponent of changing your exhaust manifolds to the one you see here. It drops the exhaust gases down and away from the valve covers and the top of the engine.

Here we have a standard FMC rear shock and two styles of mounts that Lou has designed to help properly align the shocks in a vertical manner.

On the left is the water pump and housing from a Chrysler 413 and on the right is the housing and water pump from a 440. The 413 head is taller and discharges coolant directly into the water pump housing rather than passing back down into the block like the 440 does.

Here you can see a harmonic balancer, a windage tray, various gaskets, a torque multiplier and other stuff which Lou explained.

While Lou's coach, #120, was not ready for a significant trip, Lou was able to load up his Suburban with a lot things and bring them to the rally. Lou was able put on a good seminar about several aspects of FMC coaches and engines. The informaion he shared was appreciated by the other attendees.

uhoh, what is this? Why it is the usual sight at FMC rallies! Take a piece of cardboard and slide under a coach to look things over. Here Louis Cruse is checking out the shock mounts under Jim Woestman's 617.

This is a shot of four of the coaches tail ends. FMC tail ends also have character! Left to right the units are 587-Whedon, 708-Miller, 621-Herbert and 059-Ruiz.
