The Dieselfication of Coach 1046 | ||

Here the battery holder from the donor vehicle has been added and then ..... | ..... the battery is added. Two thirds of the platform remains open should other things need to be mounted somewhere. Note the small circulation pump for the intercooler system that is mounted on the firewall. | The exhaust pipe that goes from the engine to the muffler has been made. The exhaust will enter the exhaust pipe from the engine on the left and exit from the pipe to the muffler on the right. Yes, this is the entire exhaust system except for the muffler! | This junction box is what is missing on most coaches. All of the circuits that eminate from or go to the rear of the coach will pass through this box. Each juction connector is removable individually for inspection or trouble shooting. They each have a number and that number is recorded with the name of the circuit. Also each wire is tagged with the name of the circuit as well. There are unused junctions so circuits can easily be added later. | ||
This is the wiring harness that will be installed in the dash. Note, again, that all wires are labeled. Included here, but will not be presently used, are the wires necessary should I later decide to install the steering column from the donor vehicle. At present, I will be retaining the stock FMC steering wheel. This harness includes the Body Control Module (BCM) and a small fuse panel. | This where the wiring harness will go. Some poor wiring added by previous owners was identified and removed. The fuse box for this subsection will be mounted down low on the front wall or side kick board. | The exhaust pipe and muffler have been installed. | The exhaust pipe that was shown earlier is at the left end of the muffler. The muffler will be suspended after the rear cowling is in place as the exhaust outlet needs line up with the hole provided in the cowling. | ||
The fan on the Duramax is lower than the fan on the Chrysler 440, so it is desireable to lower the radiator. It is also desireable to have the radiator as far away from the fan as possible. for those two reasons the step down bracket was added to the original radiator bracket. This is the left one. | This is the right bracket. Note that it is longer than the left one. This is because the engine in the FMC is angled to balance the coach weight left to right as the auxillary generator is on the left. I have chosen to line the radiator up with the rear cowling and not the engine. This helps put distance between the pusher fan and the radiator. | The radiator is now set on its mounts. It is the Ford radiator for the 7.3L Powerstroke diesel as the dimensions fit better than the Duramax radiator. | This is the left mount as seen from above. | ||
