The Dieselfication of Coach 1046 | ||

Here you can see the belt coming across and up from the crank pulley to the belt tensioner and then back under an idler and up to the original alternator. This area will change due to the addition of a vacuum pump to provide vacuum for the coach's brakes. | This is the charge air cooler and the frame that held it in the GMC. This same unit will be used in the FMC. | Here is the GMC radiator. It had a little fan contact as a result of the rollover, but is repairable and will be used in the conversion as well. Note: Susequently, another radiator became available so this one will not be used. The replacement is in perfect condition. | It was time to start extraction of the lower radiator hose. This is the end that attaches to the radiator. It then makes a U turn and goes under the radiator and across to the water pump on the other side. | ||
This is the lower radiator return hose or snake as Eric named it. We will probably use part or all of it. The two small hoses are the return lines from the cab heater and the fuel heater. | You can see the lower radiator hose attached to the water pump. The pump is gear driven from inside and has reliable seals! | All of the radiator and intake air hoses use a quick disconnect fitting instead of standard hose bands. There is a positive attachment. | This is the stock alternator and belt tensioner setup for all Duramax engines from 2005 and later. This is a 2006 LBZ. The 2002-04 LB7 engines had a mechanical vacuum pump which was no longer needed after those years. We will retrofit this area to include the pump so that we will have vacuum for the brakes. | ||

Note the intake air tube on the left that was fine to remove the original bracket. If you look closely near the bottom of this picture near the freeze plug, you will see a bolt hole that goes into the block and is rusty around it. This was not used by the original bracket, but the new one will extend further down and use this bolt hole. | Yeah! After being sent the wrong bracket by the supplier, the correct new bracket has arrived. | Time to prepare to install the new, soft, cast aluminum bracket! | ||
