Just another DuraMax swap
Author: hal (Show all albums) Converting 669 to an oil burner. |

Some of the 3" tube going to the IC. I tried to mount the IC close to the cold side of the turbo trying not to pick up any more hot air than possible. Probably not a big deal though, just a little extra efficiency if possible. | Here you can see the location of the IC mounted. | The mounting bracket, the IC (inter cooler) will be vibration mounted. | Another angle.
This is the inter cooler I'm using. It's from a late Ford Powerstroke so will have plenty of capacity for the DMax. They are nice and compact and very efficient. The heat exchanger and water pump add a bit to the complexities but it should work well. | (1 Comments) Figured another arm might be better. Here you can see the whole bracket. | It should be easy access for air cleaner service. | I plan on building some ducting to get cleaner/cooler air to the intake of the air cleaner.
Using all stock pieces there is about 3/4" clearance to the firewall. | After more time than I care to admit thinking this out, I decided to use the stock Duramax air cleaner. These things need an awful lot of air, in the neighborhood of 800 CFM. The Donaldson that came with 669 only flowed about 350. The stock Duramax filter flows 792 CFM. | (1 Comments) As I had to cut the bottom off I figured I'd add a bit to the capacity. Adding about 4.5" should increase volume to about 72 gallons. Readjusting the fuel sender it looks like about the first 20% will show full before dropping. Not enough room for the float to swing the full height with the added depth. | The tank was coated inside which required cutting the bottom off to access all the coating. Quite an unexpected chore.
