#846 - Cummins Swap | ||
Author: andy1canada (Show all albums) Howdy Folks! Going to give this another try as my first attempt didn't go so well on the 'Diner-conversion' thread (Will update/edit that soon). Started my Cummins swap by pulling off the bumper; only took better part of an hour. That sucker is HEAVY! Better part of a 100 lbs I bet. Will be looking to knock substantial weight off that baby while still retaining a 5000 lb towing standard. This will take a while as it will unfold as time and resources permit, so please be patient. More pics and hopefully some videos (FMC-TV) to follow. Cheers, Terry #846 |

The Yammy EF-6000 is now some closer to the engine house ceiling than I'd prefer, but a small fan strategically placed to vent the genset heat out of the area when it's running is easily doable. | Raised mounts tacked in place for a test fit. | NOTE: The Yamaha 6000 genset has since been replaced with a 1982 Honda EV4000 generator that runs on LP. | After much deliberation I decided to follow Lenny's lead and delegate space beneath the genset as the 'Cooler-corner'. The only change I'll make is to place the fan on top, pushing air downwards so as not to suck road-dust etc up into the engine house. Here you can see this cooler is going to take every inch of space to make it fit. Yes, tongue-in-cheek going forward.
NOTE: The air to air intercooler install was abandoned in favor of a water to air system that is currently (Jan. 2024') installed in the coach. | With test fit underway this where I discover my EMCM clearance was insufficient. I'll need to raise the engine about an inch as the power steering pump is almost resting on the mount. I failed to take into account the amount the engine would 'sag' downwards onto the rubber mount bushings. Nearly 1/2" it appears.
Back to updating the swap pics after my diff-diversion. Here the trans x-member and engine mount cross member (EMCM) are ready to go in ahead of the test-fit of the engine and trans. Again, I'm thinking I may beef-up the EMCM later.
