Northern Calif Work Day - March 2009 | ||
Author: BigRabbitMan (Show all albums) On the 8th of March, three FMC owners were able to get together for a work day at the home of one of the owners in Gilroy, CA. This is the second time we have done this as it gives us the opportunity to share skills and discuss possible means to solve various problems. The three major items done this time was the installation of new high pressure cutoff switches in the auto AC systems of two coaches, locating and fixing the wiring issues of the auto AC of one coach and the removal and cleaning of the burner of one Suburban heater and it's re installation. Also lighting fixtures were replaced and mystery switches had their purpose determined and corrected. |

Both engine compartment and house doors are open to get in and out. Here, Eric Whedon is getting ready to enter my coach, #1046, to work on the rear auto AC cutoff solenoid. | Eric's AC equipment and expertise made it possible to complete the work on the auto AC systems. | If you take the cover off of the shelf above the bedroom AC and heater units of #1046, this is what you see. The AC solenoid was leaking through and so it was taken apart, cleaned and reinstalled and now works fine. | And just how do we take this heater apart now that we have it out of the coach and on the work bench? On the left is Greg Miller, coach 708 and on the right is Eric Whedon, coach 587. | ||
Thirty three years and this is what you get! This part was replaced with an ad hoc replacement when the heater was reinstalled. | This is what the original Suburban heaters look like. We noted on the control board that it had been replaced at some time previously. | While the heater worked well, it was getting black soot on the side of the coach which indicates incomplete combustion. Upon disassembly it was determined that the burner was largely plugged due to rust so it was cleaned. | Yep, a LOT of rust was removed from the cast iron burner. | ||
