(1 Comments) | On the way back while on a downgrade, the boilers were "blown down" to remove sediment and scale that accumulates from the water. Note that this is from down low on the engine. Steam escaping from up on top of the engine is from the relief valve to remove excess pressure. | This is the original brake for each car. The Brakeman would go from car to car applying the brakes as needed to descend grades. The cars have been upgraded to air brakes operated by the engineer. | The high point of the trip and also where we had a very good lunch. |
