Close, too close! If it clears the floor at proper height the differential may be moving forward. Whole thing coming back out to work on the heat shield.

Cut down a small block 727 shield to fit.

Resting on the original cross member, needs to go up another half inch or so. Heat shield will need trimmed but I think floor clearance will be ok.

Yes that is a 2 barrel manifold and carb. Also put in a cam for a 413HT truck engine. Cam I pulled had .438" lift, the 413 cam is .366" lift. Torque curve brought into a lower rpm range to run with the overdrive. Performance is not necessarily how fast you get there but how well you get there.

Finally have the overdrive bolted to the 440

Here you can see how the cut down 727 park brake drum is now a tone wheel for a speed sensor.

outside view of removed area for starter nose to clear.

The 518 transmission is built to bolt to a small block so an adapter is required to bolt to the 440 .This adapter keeps the starter in the same location as the original 440 but requires the transmission case to be cut to allow the starter to clear the case. Another style adapter calls for the engine block to have the portion below the starter to be removed to allow the starter to bolt up in the stock small block location.

As mounted in the 4x4 version of the 518 overdrive housing. Shield will protect from foreign objects.

After the drum is removed the yoke is cut to form a tome wheel to trigger a speed sensor.
