We will begin this week with the upgrade, the Cummins
came out of a 1991 Dodge Truck, the 6 Speed came from
a 2008 Duramax.

We are using a 2" thick Forged Aluminum Adapter Plate to
bolt the transmission to the Cummins and waiting to see how
much room we have left for the radiator ???, the setup is around
72" in. long including the engine fan.....

Any and all positive comments and suggestions are welcome.

Be prepared to have to use a side mounted radiator given the length. A tape measure is your friend! Do lots and lots of measuring.

Start a photo album like Lenny and I did with our conversions so that the rest of us can follow along and so that you will provide a road map for any others that desire to do the same conversion.

Good luck,

You're about 4" longer than my Duramax/Allison combo. That's going to be tight. You'll need a pretty expensive stand alone conversion for that Allison, the 4 gen electronics in the TCM are not very forgiving.
You can make some crazy power with those old 12v cummins...they are heavy and loud....but they pack a punch..

I think their stuff was on an episode of "TruckU". Looked like nice stuff.
Looking forward to your build. I'll offer some tips:
1. If you have the 6 row stock radiator figure out a way to keep it...it has huge cooling capacity.
2. Move the generator forward...I wish I had done this up front instead of late in my project.
3. Cut out and fabricate new engine and trans crossmembers...the originals are a waste of time.
4. Run dual alternators, this will allow you to do a lot of wiring clean up.
5. You'll have to do some type of anti-sag work to the structure, be it added structure or some version of shear plating.
6. consider at least rear air bags, they'll help with the added rear weight.
-
I'll be interested in how you tackle brake assist, trans cooling and inter-cooling the turbo air, lots of ways to skin those cats..

I will have the complete 440 & 727 combo for sale,
with all the components attached, it has under 80,000 miles.
I'm keeping the radiator assembly, we had it cleaned
about 2 years ago when we changed the Camshaft, lifters,
pushrods, timing chain and Carter carburetor.

2 months and no progress report...either you're "nose to the grindstone" or this project hit a snag..

Hello Forum, we are still working on it, we had our first 90 mile round trip at the end of November with no problems,
we got 12.5 miles per gallon, on a stop and go Hwy towing our VW Cabriolet and Generator running under load.
No work on December lots of family functions and on January we got the Flu on and off for about 3 weeks and
in Houston its been getting dark around 5:30 pm so not much going on, and I'm still working Full Time.

Did you do a water to air intercooler?
Stand alone controller for the allison? did it retain the tap shift?
Stock radiator/fan or something custom?
Did you build a new motor mount cross member or modify the existing?
