The transmission is toast. It made it home, but I don't know how. There was about 1/2 inch of sludge in the pan!

I spent 10 hours today under ol' 238. Transmission is back in! The only parts from the original trans that could be reused were the tailshaft w/ housing. The sprag had grenaded and chewed up the case, the reverse drum had ground most of the way through the band, the planetaries were shot, etc..... I used two other 727s that I had sitting around to put it back together. One was from a 71 SB truck and had new bands and clutches. The other was from a 71 440 Charger S/E. It had the same 4 pinion planeteries as the original. Tomorrow, test drive.
