you've got all the right parts to put it back on the road and have a diesel powered rig at the finish line.

I think there was a problem with the differential. I remember that it rotated in the wrong way or something. The drive shaft was unique as well.

I think we determined it was a Dana70 case that had been modified, if it was taken from a front axle application the rotation direction would be fine, if from a rear axle application it would have been running on the coast side of the gears...that's what I recall from the discussion anyways..

The 3.73 diff I have was from an MCC (Barth) hooked up to a Cat 3208. I think it has the same prop-shafts but not sure about the drive shaft. Would have to check.

Somebody's gotta' solve this. Too nice of a coach to let it languish.

That’s a keeper. If it had brake problems I’d buy it...

FMC #983 once belonged to Jack Reall, who named it Mario. He took it to ALASKA and shared the best Travel Log I've ever read. It was sold then to Craig Ramsey, and when the rear end failed in Montana . . . he couldn't get anyone to fix it at a price he could afford. Several suggested Moser Engr, in Indianapolis to get parts made for the "custom" differential, but neither that owner, or anyone else in Montana was capable of doing that. Not sure that Ramsey got paid in full for it from some other person in Montana.
If you are ever thinking about an Alaska Trip . . . READ Jacks ENTRIES on the Yahoo FMC Website - https://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/FMCMotorCoach/search/messages?qu...

Thanks Lou!

Now I know what we're looking at here.

I totally agree: Jack's account of their Alaska excursion was arguably one of the best travel-chronology's I ever read.

I was sad when he decided to sell 'Mario' as I looked forward to meeting him one day at a Rally.

I think I may have posted this link previously but after rereading it I've rebooted my rational for my previous aversion to this engine. IMHO: Mario is in need of a complete engine/trans and differential replacement to justify further investment in him.

He's certainly priced accordingly, but am I in a position to take on yet another project at this time? That's the $64-thousand dollar question I have to ask myself.

What is 50 more cubic inches going to do ?
Yes on a Overdrive tranny with 4 or 5 speeds, and the right camshaft.
But A FMC will never FLY . . . the wings are too SHORT !

I've had two vehicles that were 8.1 powered, one was my last motorhome (Monaco Safari Trek) and a 3/4ton Suburban...they are damn near bulletproof....if I was ever to do a gas powered rv conversion it would be my weapon of choice (that is until the new 2020 direct injected big blocks start being available)
