Subject: #846 - CUSTOM AIR-SPRING INSTALL APPRAISAL

Well today I finally got to run the coach to the weigh scales again in an attempt to confirm if my rear air-spring install actually 'shifted-forward' any of the weight on the rear wheels of the coach.

I added the air-springs for 3 reasons:

1) I'd estimated (incorrectly) that providing a lift-point behind the rear wheels of X-pounds should transfer some weight to the front wheels.

2) They would provide extra (spread out) support for the heavier engine over/near the rear wheels.

3) They'd afford the ability to level the coach and increase ground clearance beneath the rear of the coach an inch or two, which I knew would also be handy for running on uneven gravel forest service roads.

On point #1: No go... nothing... nada! I rolled the front wheels onto the weigh scale with the air springs inflated to 25 lbs then recorded the weight: 2210 kg.

Then I deflated both bags and rolled her on the scale again: 2210 kg. (admittedly my heart sank some).

On points 2 & 3: I'm confident both objectives were met and thus provided some pain relief over the loss on point #1.

Win some... lose some.
