Regular Location: Seabeck Washington | Has anyone ever replaced a leaf spring bushing. I can tell one of mine is not good anymore. Are they available?

Elite Veteran Location: Oceanside, CA | I looked at the parts manual and it just has an FMC part number assigned so that isn't going to get you anywhere. I expect you'll have to measure it and find a match. Prothane, Daystar and Energy Suspension all make polyurethane leaf spring bushings in a variety of sizes so once you have measurements I'd bet it wouldn't be tough to find the match. Getting bushings out of leaf springs is a real job, they make the bushings by taking a thin wall metal tube, and interior bushing and injecting rubber around it. Then press that assy in the spring eye...after a few years of corrosion/expansion they really don't want to come out. There's a few ways to do it...most are detailed well on youtube videos.

Regular Location: Seabeck Washington | I haven't got to the spring yet. At this point it will probably be one of next summers project. I finished the ball joints and tie rod ends and finally took it out camping. When I do the spring bushing i will be sure to share the details. I don't have a shop to work in during the bad weather.

Elite Veteran Location: Oceanside, CA | I was thinking about these bushings a while back and it would seem that just having some steel shoulder bushings(with a separate steel sleeve) made would fit the need. Since the control arm bushings are what isolates the vibration of the road/tire all these bushings do is provide a pivot/load transfer to the lower control arm. Taking some time to get the dimensions correct for a nice press fit would be required, but, after that they'd be cheap/easy to make and would likely last the life of the coach (or at least the spring). You could probably make them from a lot of different materials, some of the high performance composites like PEEK or UHMW Poly could do it as well..

Elite Veteran Location: Oceanside, CA | I think it's going to take one of us to pull that apart and get the dimensions; I don't think they are documented anywhere.
