Expert Location: Cottage Grove, OR | I am making this post at the coach owner's request as he does not operate on the internet so he is unable to post it here himself. I visited him in the summer of 2018 and took the pictures in the photo album posted on this site during my visit. He subsequently advised me of his decision to put the coach up for sale. It is his opinion that his FMC is the finest one in existence due to the combination of his many upgrades and the care the coach has received since he purchased it new in 1973. I would agree that it up close to the top of the list of nice, road ready coaches. The are more small things done that are not mentioned in the photo album. Here is the link to the photo album: http://fmcowners.com/mbbs22/photos/photo-thumbnails.asp?albumid=192 If you would like more information and would like to contact John, contact me at Stephen@Heinrichs.com or 916-425-7996 and I will give you John's contact information. NOTE: The price is very firm at $25,000.

Elite Veteran Location: Oceanside, CA | That's a nice coach...worth every dime. With the 8.2 and Kubota in the rear it has to be rear heavy but looking at some of the other work he did I'm sure he addressed it.

Veteran Location: Olympia, Washington | I think I'll take my $500.00 coach, tuck my tail and go pout. Thank you for documenting it so well Stephen like you say there are a lot of little things to see on this coach as well as the big things. Should be worth the asking price but finest coach around, what about the stretched ones? Wasn't there one a while back with a six figure price tag? North Carolina the hotbed of Detroit swaps, how long has he had the Detroit in it? Just curious Stephen but where does the top of his door come to on you? I don't see you making that mod on 1046.

Personally, I don't think I like the stretched ones as the additional length reduces the maneuverability and adds weight. I don't think I mentioned it, but it has disc brakes all around that are larger than the ones FMC used on the transits. The larger wheels allowed that and the rear ones have dual sets of pads on each wheel. Fronts have singe sets of pads. He says it stops real quick! The front ones are Chevy, but I don't know what the rear ones are. Not sure when he put the first 8.2 in it but I think it was in the early '90s. This is his second (or third) Detroit. The door height has been reduced by about 6" but it doesn't affect entering or exiting as you are not standing straight up in the doorway. Going in you finish standing up after you are through the doorway and coming out you are already bending down as you pass through the doorway. No, I will not be making that mod on my coach! I am through doing modifications to mine, just trying to stay up with maintenance and continue to put miles on it at this point. In my opinion, if you are not going to put miles on it any modifications are a waste of time and money.
