Location: Victoria, BC. Canada (75.156.14.157) | I'm starting this discussion because there's a lot of folks out there - especially on the Facebook FMC page - with a lot of common questions about these old coaches that they need answers to before they make a buying decision.
I'm hoping other owners will chime-in on this thread, too, with their own ideas about what's important for perspective owners to consider and evaluate before laying any money down or getting their hands greasy.
I hope this thread progresses and grows into something truly useful, maybe then it could be made a 'sticky' on this forum and anyone could simply copy/paste this URL onto the Facebook page when those newcomer's ask those inevitable questions - "Are these good coaches... Is this one I'm looking at a good price... How much do they cost... Are parts still available... Is it true the 12V Cummins is the best engine for a diesel conversion?" Etc etc...
I'll start the ball rolling by copying a couple of what I consider to be 'mandatory reading' for all new perspective owners:
1) https://www.fmcowners.com/ (This is the Owners Group Forum you're now looking at. Buried in here among the various topic headings and in the 'Albums' section - is a veritable treasure trove of all things FMC!)
2) https://www.fmcmotorcoach.com/ (On this site you can access nearly all of the original FMC Motorcoach Parts & Service manuals, along with a huge collection of brochures and FMC information. We all owe our FMC Brother, Kjetil Bergfloedt, aka 'Duramaxer' in Norway a HUGE debt of gratitude for the immense amount of work he put it to bring this website to fruition. You can't overstate the convenience of having these parts & service manuals online - at your fingertips - wherever you are.)
Whoever you are, wherever you are, if you're considering buying an FMC, I wholeheartedly encourage you to click your way through as much of these two website's before reaching out for answers to your questions you couldn't find in either of these references.
Again, I hope my fellow owners will also chime in with points of their own on what to consider when looking to buy an FMC.
Good luck!
