Can't tell you why except that it was reported to me by the former sales manager that it was the most frequently ordered color. For the first half of production they all had a solid white top and a solid colored bottom half. I know that green, blue and grey were also available. The stripes came along later. When they were introduced, the sales point was that your coach was unique as no two coaches were painted exactly the same. There was to have always been a variance in the colors of the stripes. Many of the earlier coaches have been repainted with the striped theme so today you see stripes on both late and early coaches.
