Twice in a month an FMC owner has contacted me with low voltage in the ignition system. Both were getting 4.4 volts at the coil instead of 8.5 volts.
There is an ignition relay that supplies the power to the ignition and charging systems. They can corrode and drop the voltage.
A bad relay can present as a charging or ignition problem. Check voltage to and from the relay with the key on. Should read the same.
