I never did start a thread explaining/or referencing the work I've done on #850, other than just commenting on the pictures I post in my album....well I guess it's never too late to start?? Anyway, I posted a new pic showing my cool new birthday present.

I clocked the two VITAL upper gauges for easy glancing down while in transit.

Good idea. Shows you at a glance if the gauge is at the normal position.

I ran across this on Kjetil's FMC website....It makes me chuckle thinking about the ol' 440/727 barely workin @70 mph....

I never got over about 89mph with my ol' 440! Only been up into the 80's a few times with the Duramax. I don't know where the top end is currently.

I doubt I'd ever try to figure out what the top speed is...it pulls like a train even at 80 so I'm sure you could get stupid an push it to 100 without much effort...but then you've got to control 15000lbs with a 40yr steering/suspension/brake system..

Actually, I agree with Len on this. My recent trips up to the 80+mph mark was because I was trying to stay up with another FMC that is running a 440! It's that tire thing that keeps me down to a reasonable speed. I normally run with the trucks. The Durmax is computer limited to 100mph by GM as with the double overdrive and high torque all the way up to 3000rpm one could get up there and beyond fairly easy. I did have my limit upped to 120mph just in case I ever find myself out on the Utah salt flats!! But then it is that tire thing again.

Do you suppose 89 mph could possibly have contributed to some of your early failures? Pre-Dmax of course. Here I thought you were just unlucky and you're out hot roddin it like a teenager!

This was just a few months after I got my coach and just wanted to see what it would do. Went out into the country and floored it and waited. It was still gaining a little, but I thought about the tires and the stop sign a half mile ahead! so, no, this was much earlier than the various engine failures that happened AFTER I had the original engine rebuilt due to blowby.
