Ok, so it is time for me to let the smoke out of the can!

I am in the process of having a collapsible Fire Box made which will have the FMC coach and name on the two sides and the FMC logo and club name on the two ends as air vents.  It is being made to be RAFFLED at a drawing at the Mega Rally.  All proceeds over cost will go to the FMC Owners Club.  Where I work they have lazer metal cutting capability and so I will be able to get it at cost.

Raffle tickets will be $10 each or three for $25.  It will have a fire box that is 18”L X 14W” X 12”H and 4” legs. It comes apart into 5 flat pieces and will store flat in the bottom of your storage compartment taking up only ¾” of height.  No tools needed for assembly.  I estimate that it is a $250-300 value.

With this fire box YOU will have the fire box that will attact attention and jealousy where ever you travel and you will never have to worry about whether the campground has fire rings or not – hot dogs , marshmallows & 'smores rule!

When the drawings in the computer are done, I will post pictures so that you will be able to see what it will look like and how it is assembled.  We will use it at the rally and then it will be raffled and it will travel with who ever wins the drawing or, if they are not able to be there, with someone headed their direction.  This means that ANYONE can buy tickets and have a chance on winning the unique FMC Campfire Fire Box.  Too bad Bill's coach doesn't smoke any more!  Ticket purchase procedures to follow.

So bring wood!!! Yes, we have wood in Northern California. I guess I need to bring some real good, high quality wood.  I will bring a bit of Almond Wood!

Most states (I know Michigan is one) ban the transport of wood between state lines. Keeps the "pests"-bugs-home where they belong. Hate to rain on the parade.

Those restrictions are primarily in the East and portions of the Midwest.  I will check Nebraska rules for cultivated wood from California before bringing any Great California Almond Wood.  It is not an issue for most of the West.

Here are the initial drawings of the FMC Fire Box.  To see the drawings, click on the place at the bottom of this post where it says "Fire box1" below the word "Attachments".

The top picture is of the ends of the Fire Box with the FMC logo and the club name.  The letters will be cut out to provide air holes.  The long sides of the Fire Box will have an outline of an FMC coach.  The letters will also be cut out on these sides as well.  Shown is the driver's side of the coach.  The other long side will be the passenger side of the coach.  The outline of the coach and some of the other parts will be thin line cuts as well with "tabs" remaining to hold it all together.

It will really look great with fire flickering through the windows and names!  You can also see how it will simply slip together along with the floor.  Taken apart, the pieces will lay flat on the bottom of your storage compartment and be only 3/4" high.

It is now time to order your raffle tickets!!!

Raffle tickets are $10 each or three for $25 or six for $45.  Payment MUST be received prior to the actual raffle which will be held on the last day of the Mega Rally, Saturday June 19, 2010.  Payment can be made in cash at the rally, by check at the rally, or prior to the rally you can mail a check to me PROVIDED I receive it on or before I leave for the rally.  That means that the US Postal Service has to get it to my house on or before June 12, 2010.  My address is 245 Archer Pl, Dixon, CA 95620.  An additional method of payment for those so inclined is by Paypal to: stephen@heinrichs.com .  If paying by Paypal, be sure to indicate the purpose and number of tickets in the comment/description box.

If you win this Fire Box you will be the envy of every campground!  To win it, you need to buy lot's of tickets to improve your odds and the club will make good use of the funds raised.

See you at the raffle in Minden,

Come on Stephen, Pyromaniac? "It will really look great with fire flickering through the windows and names!" Enough FMC's have met their demise by flame already. If I bought all but one ticket I still would not win. It's not who wins, but how you play the game right? It does look nice...Good job. Denny

Aaaah, Denny! This is one tough FMC as you can light it on fire and it will come back for more!! FMC's live forever!!

Yes, even with your "winning" record you still need to buy multiple tickets. Remember, this is a fund raiser so we really don't buy the tickets expecting to win, but to support the cause. I really don't like boy/girl scout cookies that much but I buy them anyway. You need to buy the tickets just to support the cause! I will have about four days to harass you so you might as well give up and order them ahead of time so that you won't have me pestering you at the rally!

And to all of you that can't make the rally for one reason or another, this is an opprotunity to participate from a distance and you may get lucky and actually win the Fire Pit. You will then be able to show it off at a local rally or to owners of other brands of coaches and brag about how great your ownership group supports each other. Send money per the above instructions!!

Stephen, Pleast get it right. It is Girl Scout Cookies and Boy Scout Popcorn both of which I have degrees in....a Masters in Cookies as I remember selling them when they were 35 cents a package. And I was cookie chairwoman for my daughter's troop many years and popcorn chairwoman for my son's troop for many years also.!!!!!

I love it and plan on winning it, this is my lucky year. I just won a hand made quilt from my nurses association scholarship raffel and I only had to buy24 tickets. What a great idea!

I stand corrected!  I wondered where the popcorn that I also buy came in!

Just met with the design team and have tweeked the design a little -- Looking Good!!

Update:

I have now attached the file of the updated design.  It will be cut from the metal stock by the middle of next week.  I will then paint (with high temp black) the pieces and take pictures of both assembled and unassembled and ready for storage in YOUR coach.

Get your raffle buying check book warmed up!!

It's here! It's here!!

The Fire Box has been completed except for the black high temp finish.  I was planning on high temp black paint, but I am being lobbied to have it done in high temp Powder Coat!!  Your thoughts?

I have posted some pictures in the photo album section so you can see what it looks like and how it is put together.

Now it is time to buy your tickets so YOU will have a chance for the best, most talked about and highest quality fire box that is available.  It is not often that you have the chance to get a $300 value that is really usable and matched to YOUR motorcoach.

Don't you agree that this is the Fire Box that you should be roasting your marshmellows over?  Toss a grill on the top, poke a hot dog through the window and have fun with YOUR Fire Box.

Buy your tickets now per the instructions above.

I have had several items in my various retorations powder coated. Scott, who does the work for me, constantly reminds me that powder coat is not indestructable. It chips and scratches just like other paints; it's just harder. I would suggest you stick with a readily available high temp spray so the winner can touch it up for events.

And now.... off to the antique truck show in Pleasanton. It's running through Saturday, if anyone is into that short of thing. Alameda County Fairgrounds.

The fire box has now been painted with high temperature flat black paint.  I have posted another couple of pictures in the photo album including one showing the unit disassembled and ready for transport in YOUR FMC.

We will use the Fire Box in Minden and then it will go home to the raffle winner.  It can only go to your house if you buy some tickets so get them now per the above instrucions.  Remember, it is a very high quality piece that can only be gotten through the raffle.  When it is not traveling with you, it can reside on your patio and provide evening fires or a nice place for a potted plant until your next trip.

See you in Minden!

Here is the latest update.  The Fire Box is packed and ready to make it's trip to the Mega Rally in Minden, NE.

Note that it is on top of the grey tool set and below the six brackets and the box with the stuff sticking out.  It doesn't take any room at all!

And here is the stuff that will go into it in Minden.  Two plus year old California Almond wood-the best there is.  We will save a few ashes for you!

Get your hot dogs and marshmellows ready and open your wallet and buy your raffle tickets now!

I am please to report that the Fire Box performed as expected and both looked great and also provided a great ambience for sitting around in the evening and telling tall tales.

Here is how it looked and it was better than the pictures can reveal.

It was interesting how the view changed as the fire went through the process of starting to burn, burning, and then going down to just glowing coals.

Financially, due to the excellent support of the members both present and not present, the project raised more than I expected.  The net amount over cost that when to the club treasury was $520!  Given the positive comments from those present about how much each of them desired to win the Fire Box, I know that everyone was deeply disappointed except the raffle winner.

The Winner of the Fire Box was Denny and Lou Shewmake of Coach #890 from Georgia.

Again, I would like to thank everyone who supported this project and the FMC Owners Club by purchasing raffle tickets.  It added to the fun of the Mega Rally.
