Gentlemen----and Ladies--
This is exactly the type of conversation that we ought to be having on the owners sight under Club Business---It would bring this group forward as an open and hopefully insightful bunch instead of the cloak and dagger backroom emails that go on---as everyone knows---or may think so --thoughts left over from the PAST!
I too think the club ought to have a BIG Central Gig just sitting in one place (not to encourage breakdowns----) and not during the school time so anyone can make it happen---and then the smaller local ones---like what is starting to happen now---
I would love to have one in my backyard so that I didn't have to go anywhere, pay for gas, look for places to stay and not worry about breaking down-----just as you might want---but that doesn't fit the bill-----Right Buffy!--So heres to PLANNING ahead to make it happen!

Would the group like to try another rally in Colorado, perhaps Spring Break, 2010? (it probably won’t snow, but perhaps June would be more prudent)

Those who were here at Garden of the Gods had a great time.

This time, we could caravan from/to Rocky Mountain National Park, or perhaps Aspen Highlands, through beautiful Glenwood Canyon?

Anyone?

I would like to see a more advanced planned rally for the middle of this country---

I second this motion, considered making it myself. If we focus on one major rally annually and several regional rallies, it would build a more cohesive group. FMC exclusive or part of a FMCA gathering. The rally's in Missouri and Colorado (more or less central) were not all that well attended, but with significant advanced planning and a commitment from the membership (someone needs to be the whip), that could change. Perhaps a survey with suggestions for rally destinations and time frame is in order at some point. My 2 ¢ worth.. Denny

A BIG Central FMC rally planned well in advance is really needed to rejuvenate or kick start the FMC Owners Club. While the discussion for that is on the table, I am submitting three campgrounds for that meeting next year (hopefully) near the geographic center of the lower 48. Hard for anyone to argue distance as a factor. Early/Mid June seems to be good target dates because of school. A caravan/visit to Pioneer Village NE should be included if we do not stay in their campground.

The Pioneer Village complex comprises 28 buildings on 20 acres housing over 50,000 irreplaceable items of historical value, restored to operating order, arranged in groups and also in the chronological order of their development. They have a 135 campsites. http://www.pioneervillage.org/

Hunter Cove Park is located on Harlan County Lake near Republican City, Nebraska. 150 campsites, two shower buildings/comfort stations, laundry facilities, two picnic shelters, a sewer dump station, water hydrants, playground equipment, a volleyball court, and a boat ramp. http://tinyurl.com/m8eho8

Methodist Cove Park is located on Harlan County Lake by Alma, Nebraska. 155 campsites, a shower building/comfort station, a sewer dump station, water hydrants, playground equipment, and a boat ramp. http://tinyurl.com/lf2ebu

The last two are Federal parks (Army Corps of Engineers), anyone with the Interagency Senior Golden Age/Golden Access/America the Beautiful pass for age and disability should receive a 50% discount.

Your locations are great Denny---Personally ---I like being on the water as we both fish---but we can put the poles down long enough to enjoy the rest of the group---As you say---Lets make plans NOW! We can post the details in the FMCA Magazine and get the emails out repetatively until the Rally of mass proportion happens---and I vote for you Denny ( I will help of course---) to be rally master for this one!

We may be getting the cart ahead of the horse but will rallymas with you if Bill agrees and this comes to fruition. So far, we have three people interested in a "Big Central Rally". We need at least 10-15 coaches committed up front to proceed. The largest gathering that I am aware of was the Las Vegas rally with 10 coaches (that's what’s in the picture anyway). There may have been a larger one, did not do a lot of research on rallies. No chatter in the Club Business room. Perhaps "FMC Motor Coach Club Fresh Start Rally" Or "Get off your duff and participate rally". I had a couple more but deleted them. ..ds

If You build it they will come!
Time to pick a date and a spot, or poll the group. Denny you quarterback the 2010 First Annual FMC Rally in the Middle. ( name subject to change) When you have a place and time together coaches will start to feel the call to come and rally togeather! Looking foreward to your decision.

Ok, I may be a Colorado bigot, but if you are going to go all the way to Nebraska, why not go another 200+ miles and meet in the Rockies. We don't have much, except the rockies, and don't get me wrong, I love corn, but we have water here too. You just have to climb up to 8000 feet to see it!

Ok Jim You may get to plan the 2011 Rally in the middle in Colorado unless others decide to put in a bid for it. We still need to have a rally here sometime next year. Navajo lake was fun this year and it looks like planning is increasing Quickly! Keep working on ideas for a mountain rally? The one thing about Nebraska is everyone has to travel to get there. It is nice to just go down the block but travel is what FMC's are all about. The rally you put on in 2007 was a great time.

Jim----I couldn't agree more with you about the boredom of the plains and especially ---Nebraska! I think though---if you push Bill to show you how he makes Daisy push his vehicles----and yes---he took pictures---(what an idiot---I wouldn't sleep with my eyes closed if I were him---) The rockies are fine as long as us carberator guys have time to get an extra set of jets to do the little hills---So lets plan ahead and Go Rockies!

Not mentioned is the fact Denny went to 8th & 9th grade in NE. The campsites listed above are 60 miles from where I was born in KS. And, there is always a nice "breese".

I will once again be retired after April 15, 2010 and will be free to travel to rallies. If at all possible I will follow and help if needed. I am also trying to make Calif work out in November but too early to tell. Jim #617

With a little planning the coaches heading for the mega rally could hookup an caravan to the rally. Thus getting a FMC caravan experience along with the rally.

I plan on being there.

On another note 355 is coming along. $2k worth of parts arrive from RVS next week and that will fix all my remaining issues. Looking forward to the maiden voyage.

Tim,

It is great that another Canadian will be attending rallies along with Frank and family.  I look forward to meeting you and seeing your coach.  Once you get the parts installed, you need to come on down to California for the Nobember rally in Felton as a warmup to the Nebraska rally.  While I am sure there will be Califonia coaches in Nebraska, there will be more of them here in November as some can't make that long of a trip from a job perspective.

Realizing that I am new to the FMC "family", but with the "new" perspective on the "family", here are my two cents, for what its worth.

To begin with, the fact is that most FMC's (and their owners) are on the West coast. Therefore, it is a gone conclusion that an annual national rally would generate more numbers, and interest around the Western side of this great county.

However, for those of us in the mid-west and the few on the East coast, a trip across the nation, so to speak is not in the cards for most of those drivers, and their FMCs'. That is the reality of it all.

I don't know much about Nebraska...don't go there much and also don't plan on doing so (sorry, Nebraskans), but still, I am not looking for anything much more than meeting people (particularly FMC owners/drivers) AND the bigger thing for me (and I think several other FMC owner/operators) is the opportunity to "see what all of yo have done, and are doing to keep and maintain these great, and antique, RV's working.

Consequently, then I would vote for a location, be it in Nebraska or other, for a 2010 national rally. I would also agree that the "three" areas of the country should organize and offer "their own" regional sub rally's. Subsequently, I would offer to head up a central region "sub rally", (not conflicting with the 2010 national rally) in Illinois, and in my back yard (so to speak) in Abraham Lincoln's home town, where I will guarantee you plenty to see, do and eat (have you ever had a horse shoe sandwich?).

Never the less, look forward to meeting each of you in Nebraska, next year.

Fellow Gene;
I don't know if you have heard of the Southeastern FMC group which was the biggest chapter we had. The west holds a lot of them but not as a club. There was a FMC dealer in --(correct me on this if wrong) Greensboro, North Carolina that did a great job of selling these great machines in that area---hence the club there.

I know that Nebraska is out of everyones way (some of the reasoning of picking it---)----and the specific location for the rally is within 60 miles (north and west) of the geographic center of the lower 48 states---more of the reason of why it was chosen!

Since the start of this club---Most of the rallies have been in Illinois with a few in Michigan, Indiana and Wisconsin from this group. Lets just say that it is time do something somewhere else for the benefit of the overall group. I don't want to put a damper on your backyard enthusiasm and you can certainly host a rally anytime and we hope you do. The more the merrier (with enough advance notice).

We (Connie and I) host a rally for our group yearly in concert with the GLASS rally Memorial weekend in south west Michigan (mark your calender----this is a good one--) and keep them coming. We will help and attend all that we can as well as promote, through this web site and with the members quarterly news letter (with enough advance notice), any who want to have a rally.

Gene, At the rally in Auburn, 2006, we elected regional vice presidents to encourage rallies in each of the "four" areas of the country; the east coast, mid west, mountain region (me) and the west coast. Although I failed to collect anyone for a rally last year, the 2007 colorado caravan was quit an enjoyable success, even tho there were only six of us.

""There was a FMC dealer in --(correct me on this if wrong) Greensboro, North Carolina that did a great job of selling these great machines in that area. ""

There was a shop in Greensboro/High point area that did several early Detroit Diesel/Allison conversions. #890 is one of them. Was owned by Ron Petty at the time. Petty Enterprises is (was?) located in Holly Cross just down the road. I have not had a chance to talk with Richard or Kyle (grin) to see how/if he is related.. Denny
